Project2019 · Atacama Desert
Interpretation and Discovery Center of the Universe located on the Llano de Chajnantor, at five thousand meters above sea level in the Atacama Desert — one of the world's best places for sky observation. The project stems from a simple question: how to bring the universe down to earth? The answer is a reflecting pool at the center of a circular geometry. At night, the water surface replicates the intensity of the sky with mirror precision. The envelope, clad in Vantablack, contains artificial light without contaminating the astronomical environment. Architecture does not compete with the sky — it shelters it. The journey proposes three experiences: a circular panoramic gallery that embraces the desert in 360°, a sensorial tunnel that simulates the interior of the galaxy, and the interior view of the pool from the upper level, where the universe opens beneath one's feet. Terraviva International Competition. 9th place and honorable mention.
